This recipe came from desperation when I had nothing to make. I often make this when I ask myself, "What can I use to make a salad?"

About Me

Purpose of Blog

I have always enjoyed cooking with my mother and mother-in-law. I often feared losing precious recipes that were part of their lives growing up during and after the war. I have managed to write and remember most of them. The purpose of this blog is to reconnect with both of these fabulous ladies through their recipes and also share their imaginative cooking with you.

Background

I am an Italian American from Montreal, Canada and my husband was born in Sicily, Italy. My family was transferred to South Carolina several years ago to start a new life. One of the hardest parts about the move down to South Carolina was leaving a large multicultural city to a small town. With such a different culture, I continue to have difficulty finding produce that my family grew up with. My solution? Generating and growing the ingredients myself!

Full Circle

Many years ago, we as people ate much better and also felt tremendously better. Over time, a great part of our population began to succumb to what I call "fake food." As we become more aware of our health, it seems as if we are starting to come full circle. Many people have become more aware of the importance of growing, purchasing, and consuming food for ourselves and our families. Real food, better health!

Organic Gardening

I grew up in a large family and was raised growing an organic vegetable garden. I continued the tradition as I started my own family. Today, our vegetable garden thrives organically without pesticides or enhanced feeding. Instead of harmful chemicals, we use compost to nurture and grow our plants. Because of the favorable weather in South Carolina, we garden all year round. Nothing tastes better than broccoli in the Fall! If you do not have a vegetable garden, an herb garden over your window makes an incredible difference in the taste of your food.

The best tasting food is anytime the family gets together to eat and laugh!
